The Travelling Notebooks Project

The Travelling Notebooks project was started in August 2012 by two Sheffield residents, Cindy Cheung and Emma Fisher. The idea is simple; you sign up to receive a notebook of your choice from a selection of three, each with a different theme (Recipes, Snap and Ready). When you receive the notebook you have a month in which to fill in two empty pages and then send it on to the next person.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, I signed up to receive the ‘Recipes’ notebook. I was the fourth person to receive the book, so the first thing I did when it arrived with me was have a read of the three recipes already in there. I was quite surprised to find that two of the three were savoury dishes, as I’d just assumed that everyone would have focussed on sweet treats (emphasising the fact that I probably have cake on my mind far more often than is normal…).

The 'Recipes' Travelling Notebook

As I received the book at the end of November, I had a bit of a dilemma. I knew I was going to put a sweet recipe in, but I couldn’t decide which one to choose. I spent quite a long time thinking which of my own or my mum’s recipes I could use (as I didn’t want to copy something out of a published recipe book that people might have already come across), and debated on various festive foods with it being close to Christmas, but eventually settled on ‘Chocolate Squares’. These might not sound (or even look) particularly special, but believe me they are delicious (at least I think so, I hope the other Travelling Notebooks recipients agree with me!).

After making a good size batch of Chocolate Squares for the first time in quite a while, I took some photos and filled in my two pages before wrapping the book up in some festive paper and posting it on to my Travelling Notebooks partner. I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed that anyone who receives the book has success with the recipe and enjoys these little treats as much as I do.

If you want to try making Chocolate Squares for yourself, click here for a separate post that details the recipe.

You can find out more about the project, track the progress of the different notebooks, and even sign up yourself if you’d like to get involved on The Travelling Notebooks webpage.
