Seasons at The Station, Richmond, North Yorkshire

This week’s post is something that I’ve been meaning to put up for a while now - and I always try to blog about things around the same time that they happen - but for various reasons this one slipped by the wayside for a little while.

When we were in Richmond for the Jubilee weekend (yes, it was THAT long ago), me, Mat’s sisters and his cousin went for a short walk around the town, ending at The Station.

Missies Pud Inn: Chocolate

I first heard about Missies Pud Inn events when I saw this page in Sheffield based ‘Toast’ magazine…

Missie Cindz's page in Toast magazine, where I first heard about the Pudding Club

I instantly loved the idea of a room full of sweet-tooth pudding enthusiasts getting to know each other over a series of delicious, locally made desserts, and ever since have been counting down the days until I could get my hands on tickets and attend one of these events. I couldn’t have chosen a better theme myself for my first Pud Inn experience: chocolate!

Wensleydale Creamery: A Tour of the Cheese Shop Followed By Real Yorkshire Wensleydale and Ginger Cheesecake

As we all know by now, I like cake. However, there is something else that I like probably as much: cheese. If you told me I had to give one of them up forever I honestly don’t know which I’d choose (I do know that I wouldn’t like you very much anymore, though, that’s a definite).

In light of this, you can imagine how happy I was when I got to go to the Wensleydale Creamery while we were visiting Mat’s family for the Jubilee weekend. This is somewhere that I’d wanted to visit for a few years, and in that time I’d built up certain expectations. I’m delighted to say that my visit was as good – if not better – than I’d been hoping it would be.

Peace in the Park 2012

This afternoon Mat and I headed out to the 10th annual ‘Peace in the Park’ Sheffield community festival. My main motivation for going – unsurprisingly – was the Tea Tent. Last year they had a “granny’s parlour” 1940s/50s theme, serving cream teas and cakes, so I was quite excited to see what theme they’d go with this year.

Recipe: Cheat’s Baileys and Malteser Cheesecake

Cheat’s Baileys and Malteser Cheesecake

This week it was my (basically) mother-in-law’s birthday, but the party was delayed until this weekend, when everyone returned home from university for the long weekend. Instead of a birthday cake, however, she decided she’d like a Baileys Cheesecake. For a variety of reasons this turned into Cheat’s Baileys Cheesecake (which isn’t actually cheesecake at all, but a creamy dessert that looks a lot like cheesecake).

This, then, is my first post detailing my own attempts in the kitchen. Also, I’ll warn you now, this is one for those people who have a really sweet tooth.

Ingredients (to serve 6)

·      200g digestive biscuits
·      80g butter
·      225mls cream
·      50g icing sugar
·      Maltesers (135g bag)
·      100ml Baileys (or to taste)
